COMMUNITY
RIPARIAN
MONITORING
NETWORK

Bridging the information gap between upstream riparian areas near Sierra Vista and down stream
of The Narrows.

Under the guidance of Dr. Julie Stromberg from Arizona State University, teams of ecologists, botanists, hydrologists, and local volunteers launched a network of riparian (streamside) monitoring stations to better understand the following important factors:

  • Determine where healthy cottonwood and willow forests remain within the Benson Subwatershed

  • Monitor the ground water conditions associated with this vegetation over the long-term to track changes

  • Better quantify how much water is actually used by riparian vegetation to better develop a
    regional ground water model.
