IMPROVING
WATER
QUALITY

   

West of Highway 80, between
Benson and St. David, Arizona

 
  A one-inch rain event transports over seven inches of sediment to the San Pedro River which is less than a mile away.  
CWA, Partners, Volunteers, and eight Property Owners are working together to restore 190 acres by implementing Best Management Practices.

sediment transport by

          ON THE GROUND                PROJECTS

  • Construct 350' bank stabilization
  • Replace undersized culvert
  • Construct over 150 grade stabilization structures such as loose rock check dams, gully plugs, and gabion baskets.

 

ON SITE TRAINING
BE A VOLUNTEER

        FOUR WORKSHOPS

  • Orientation and Surface Water Rights
  • Constructing loose rock check dams
  • Building gabion baskets, and identifying reseeding opportunities
  • Neighborhood strategies for maintaining dirt roads.
 
Gully Plugs will stop head cuts of 3-foot deep gullies from advancing 2 feet up slope with every one-inch rain event.
